I asked the kids to share one thing they perceived they have as a talent or skill or something they really liked to do. These are the results in their words and spelling. :) I intend to contact their parents with a view toward helping each child prepare for a talent show in mid-August. I think it is important to encourage them as they explore various interests and to help them understand that God cares about all the things that they do.

Glen - thanks for the link. We invented a similar encouragement game that I am going to post on next week. We had kids sit in a circle and pass a ball to someone else and say, "This person is good at ___________ and I can imagine God using them to _____________."
It was for older elementary small groups and needed some supervision. But to hear the kids giving God-centered encouragement was just awesome. It made me think, "I love this ministry."
hi Glen, have a former hopekid (a child from our ministry) went to youth ministry... stuggles and didn't do very well in studies as well as ministry... until one time she discovered her talent in dancing. took it up. with parents encouragement dancing actively now, affects her confidence and other areas of her life...finding her passion helps her now flourish in ministry as well as studies.
Tony,
You are most welcome for the link. I appreciate the content on your site and also that you are featuring some of mine. I like your idea about the encouragement circle. I might try that this Sunday or Wednesday. I am working on trying to encourage kids who tend to slip through the cracks and not be encouraged due to their own shyness. In my childhood and youth I was one of those kids when it came to the life of the church. Thanks so much for your idea!
rags,
That is exciting to hear about the young person blossoming with dance. I have a niece who is a very gifted ballerina. What is neat is that occasionally her church will encourage her to incorporate certain elements of ballet into a presentation. Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Glen Woods
